A north-east Cyber Security Officer is a finalist in this year’s ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards. Robbie Ross, CSO for internet service provider, IT support and security specialist, Converged Communication Solutions, has been shortlisted in the Unsung Hero category of the Awards, which will be held on the 18th May at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow. Showcasing excellence within the industry and rewarding the innovation, expertise and ambition of businesses and individuals across the country, the Awards highlight some of the great achievements within the tech sector over the past 12 months.

“We’re delighted Robbie has been shortlisted,” says Converged’s Founder and Technical Director, Neil Christie. “The decision to nominate him was an easy one – from schools to community groups, Robbie regularly donates his own time and energy towards helping people understand cybercrime and the steps they can take to protect themselves from it. He knows it can be a confusing topic for many and sees his roles as helping to simplify it for them and increase their resilience.

Unprecedented number of nominations this year

“He faces some tough competition in this category, and that’s something to celebrate – the kindness of others working in this sector across Scotland, and their dedication to increasing access to digital technology for all.”

Robbie is up against Irina Preda of Dataify, and Tandy Nicole of the Scottish Government, in the Unsung Hero category, which saw an unprecedented number of nominations this year. The category aims to honour those who give up their own time and resources to give back to the community but don’t usually get the credit they deserve. Winners in the past have been nominated for supporting teachers advance their digital skills for the classroom, running coding clubs, hosting workshops to encourage girls into STEM, and more.

Highlighting Scotland as a true leader of innovation and talent

Karen Meechan, ScotlandIS CEO, commented: “I am continually astounded by the quality of the entries we receive and some of the fantastic success stories we hear from across our industry. This year’s shortlisted companies highlight Scotland as a true leader of innovation and talent, helping to drive the growth of the sector, and I am delighted to celebrate their achievements.”

The judging panel consisted of experts, champions, and influencers from across the digital technology industry.
