Job Summary

The Assistant Accountant plays a key role within the Finance Team, supporting accurate, timely, and well‑controlled financial operations across Converged Communication Solutions, Scot‑Tech Fire & Security, and Converged Rural Broadband. This role ensures the integrity of day‑to‑day accounting activities – including sales invoicing, credit control, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and VAT preparation, while contributing to month‑end and year‑end reporting cycles.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider team, the Assistant Accountant helps maintain strong financial discipline, supports internal customers with professionalism, and contributes to continuous improvements across finance processes and systems.

The role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to accuracy. You will work across multiple systems, collaborate with colleagues across the business, and help maintain a high standard of financial management as we continue to grow and evolve.

 

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:

  • To raise sales invoicing, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and to carry out credit control.
  • To process AP invoices and prepare payment runs.
  • To accurately record bank postings in Sage 50 and reconcile bank accounts.
  • To prepare quarterly VAT returns.

The secondary responsibilities of the position are as follows:

  • To provide holiday or sick leave cover for other members of the finance team.
  • To support the year end process.
  • To support any business improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • The ideal candidate would be educated to HNC/HND level and have at least 1 or 2 years work experience in a similar role.
  • “A” level maths and English at grade “B” or above and / or
  • HND in Accounts or Business Studies.
  • This position may also suit a graduate with 1-2 year’s work experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Good level of knowledge of AR and Credit Control processes, plus AP.
  • Relevant knowledge of accounting and other linked systems (Sage 50, GoCardless, Connectwise, Paperless, Zynk or similar – training will be provided as required).
  • Intermediate Excel.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to protect and deal appropriately with confidential information.
  • Team player.
  • Problem solving / proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communicator at all levels of the organisation, and externally (clients, Accountants, VAT office etc).
